Technical Art Director

First Contact Entertainment seeks an experienced  Technical Art Director to help us create the best games you can play in VR and beyond.  This person is comfortable working in a  small, talented team with a large amount of responsibility and creative opportunity. The ideal candidate is technically and creatively gifted in the domain of next-generation art pipelines, Visual FX and rendering. This is a crucial role, leading the art teams technical vision and collaborating across the studio with other technical and creative leads.

  • Collaborate with visual and creative leads to establish best in class visual production practices for VR and other, next-generation gaming platforms.

  • Lead the teams art pipeline development, identifying tools, techniques and processes that support the efficient creation of high-quality assets.

  • Direct technical art development across the studio, interfacing with engineers and designers to establish visual goals for all of our projects.

  • Participate in pre-production and project planning to establish visual goals that showcase the teams vision and set benchmarks in VR.

  • Work with Production to establish art task metrics and workflow planning, striving to maximize efficiency and predictability.

  • Work with artists to ensure that technical training is provided and that art assets can reliably be delivered to meet technical requirements, especially in regards to real-time performance.

  • Troubleshoot and solve technical art production issues.

  • Be first in line to solve challenging technical art problems.

  • Provide creative and technical assistance and support to other team members

  • Develop, update and optimize workflows and tool chains that demonstrate best-in-class results

  • Review and deliver work in accordance with the project's artistic direction and deadlines  

  • Contribute to a creative and positive work environment

  • 8+years experience and shipped titles as a technical Art Director in the games industry.

  • Expert knowledge of Maya, Substance Designer, Substance Painter, Zbrush, Photoshop, and other industry standard software

  • Extensive experience with UE4 and other real-time game engines

  • Team player with strong adaptability to changing production demands as well as ability to communicate clearly

  • Able to consistently meet deadlines

  • Must be currently eligible to work in the USA

  • An interest in VR!

  • VR Game Experience

  • Experience with version control software (Perforce or equivalent)

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent
