Mission Designer

First Contact Entertainment is looking for a talented, motivated, and experienced Designer who is looking to create innovative gameplay systems, fun over the top game-modes and visceral in-game moments for an exciting new project. This is a unique opportunity to join a team of game industry experts tackling the challenges of creating innovative games which use software and hardware technologies in new ways.

Starting from high-level design direction, you’ll work with other Designers and team members to create design documentation and assist prototype, iteration, and execution of a variety of system features. Qualified individuals are expected to be highly-organized and competent at working in a complex, multi-functional environment. They also possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills that encourage positive collaboration. This person can shape creative and wide-ranging ideas into coherent designs and identify robust solutions to problems. Candidates must have passion for a broad range of game experiences, and be well versed in market trends and styles.

Job Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Designers and Artists build a compelling product roadmap

  • Create, manage and document high level designs for upcoming product features.

  • Participate in the development of the overall mission structure. 

  • Work daily to improve the quality of our single player and multiplayer experiences through playtest feedback.

  • Review features (and events) and provide insights on balance, structure, engagement and strategy.

  • Work with a pod of engineers, producers, and artists to execute those features.

  • Promote a design ethos that puts the player first, leading to engaging experiences with long-term engagement.

  • Write and manage gameplay scripts to provide player passives, build unique player equipment, manage player inventory, track player stats, define gameplay rules, manage player progression and more.

  • Work daily to improve the quality of our projects through play-sessions and feedback.

  • Provided high-level direction: own a feature or feature set from start to finish. This includes fleshing out the design and then requesting all needed audio, art, animation, vfx and code. Continue to iterate on the design and integrate these requested items as they come in.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of relevant, professional game design experience with at least one shipped title

  • Unreal 4 Experience

  • Blueprint Visual Scripting knowledge

  • Experience with Sequencer

  • Knowledge and prior experience with a C/C++ or equivalent programming language.

  • Strong game design skills: Applicants must be able to intelligently discuss the strengths and weaknesses of recent games and be able to list techniques used to make fun FPS combat.

  • Ability to pitch game design concepts in a clear, detailed manner, through strong written and verbal skills.

  • Efficient at prioritizing to meet deadlines.

  • Communicate progress with the Leads and Directors well and frequently.

  • A positive, solution-oriented attitude and passion about the play experience, with a wealth of knowledge across a wide range of games.
